LoWilla, Hi, from Norma Lewis, Crasulady
Many of you know that I volunteer at the Huntington Gardens,
I have always had a few San. left over from my Grandmother, then
I was given one from the estate of Vincent Price, this was stuck
in the ground, and I remembered it 6 mo later. It had grown a foot
and had round, grooved lvs.
Now I was hooked , I didn't know they came in different shapes.
1978 or so, I purchased a few fancy names from Grigsby's
S. manolin, S. silver queen, S. 'Bantel's Sensation. These I had
or have now. I didn't know how to grow them.
The next thing I knew , I was a member of the Sunset Succlent
group, that meets here in So. Calif. (Culver City) and met Juan
Chahinian, he I.D. my three San. which I found out, from him ,were
I.D/ incorrectly. I thought I had purchased a Mason Congo . That
was not right at all, Juan was pitching his new book and I purchsed
one , and that got me started and running. I now have l45 plants
many of which was given to me. The others purchsed as various
sp. nursery's. I'm still searching. I must have the bug bad.
It is all Juan's fault
James Gamesby also has been a friend and help, as well as several
others. I stilll haven't got the hang of raising S. hahnii succesfully yet
and with the help of several people on the list I will improve.
I live in Cal.zone 10 and U.S. zone 20-21 San Fernando Valley
where it is still hot, no rain, very little wind and the Huntington is
having there fall sale this week end.
Hope to hear from each of you. Norma Lewis Crasulady@aol.com
