[SANS] General Stuff -variegated Sansevierias

Dear SDL;
Having just joined this list, I have to admit my interest in
Sansevierias has been uncurable for years. I live in the Kansas City area
so all my plants are potted and come in for the winter. Usually this means
lugging pots (some large and heavy) each May/June and again Sept/Oct. It
also means ruthless chopping and giving away in the fall to keep them all
in bounds.

My major interest is in Sansevierias with variegated foliage. As
soon as I can find a good variegated foliage form of a species I already
grow, I will usually keep the variegated form and give away the typical. I
never have enough of these.
I still think it is hard to 'top' old "Bantell's Sensation" for a
good growing, vigorous and beautiful variegated Sansevieria. I am also very
fond of "Lillian True" (or whatever it's real name is - I am sure this list
will provoke some discussion of 'correct' names of Sansevierias in
cultivation).

One reason for joining this list is to learn more about
Sansevierias, especially their classification and taxonomy. I can't think
of many popular plant groups that have so many unidentified plants
'floating around' just with numbers and without either species names or
affiliations.

Finally a favor from you who are fellow appreciators of
Sansevierias with variegated foliage. I am currently editor of a newsletter
for a group called "ABG" (Anything But Green) for growers and fans of
plants with variegated, yellow, bronze, black etc foliage - anything but
green. We have a newsletter 3x per year and I'd love to get a short article
from a sansevieria grower who has a lot of variegated plants to tell what
he/she thinks are perhaps the ten best variegated, the best growers, the
cream of variegated Sansevierias.
Anyone willing to take on this small project?

And finally....Last I heard of Juan Chahinian he picked pots and
moved to Florida. Took "The Sansevieria Journal" with him. What ever
happened to "TSJ"? Will we ever see another issue or was it a short lived
fluke in the world of Sansevierias. Anyone have any news of him, his move
(successful?) and "The Sansevieria Journal's" fate?

Would love to hear from other cold climate Sansevieria growers, too.

        Best Dr. James W. Waddick
