Dear Goerge,
While it is true that the genera Sansevieria and Dracaena (including
Pleomele) make up the plant family Dracaenaceae, your question makes one
wonder if the Sansevieria forum should include discussion of the sibling
genus also.
Unlike Sansevieria, none of the species of Dracaena are leaf succulents but
several, including species found in the Canary islands, northern and
eastern Africa, the Arabian peninsula and the Hawaiian islands are
xerophytic and are often considered to be caudiciform. Dracaena fragrans
and its many cultivars are as widely grown as the polymorphic Sansevieria
trifasciata.
Dracaena goldieana Bullen ex Masters & T.Moore, Gardener's Chronicle 1872:
1232 (1872) is native to tropical West Africa, including Cameroon and
Nigeria.

Hi everyone,
I read in the Sans Journals that Dracaena is very closely related to Sans.
I recently acquired a D. goldieanna that has mottled banding on the leaves
very similar to many Sans. Someone said it came from Congo; another said
from Borneo. It is said to be very slow-growing. Can anyone tell me
anything else about it.
