Steve, I suspected that you had read a misspelled name. If you read my
wording I did not say that you misspelled it because I immediately
suspected
that you read it that way. I saw the page of the Madagascar book at Kew, two
weeks ago, and I did not notice the misspelling. I did notice that he
published a picture of S. canaliculata at the Madagascar room and I remember
that Rauh had sent me the slide of his field picture. I thought if he knew I had
it he would kill me. He never asked for it, possibly having
forgotten that he gave it to me.
You have answered Hermine's question
about the red flowers. Perrier de la Bathie was a renowned botanist and could
not have confused this plant wiith any other.
I have been asking for this
plant to field collectors more than six
years now, sent copy of the original
description to many, including Lavranos, to no avail.
I am dedicated to
sorting out new species, or at least new varieties.
Right now though, I am
striving to finish a book on all the species
which alas!, will not cover all
the ones known in circulation. It will
be a beginner's book with not more
than 110 species and varieties nd will show the ones that I am really sure
of plus the probable name n some of the others that are interesting and
attractive.
Mats Thulin work shows why any study should be checked by, at
least
someone who has an idea of the genus
