Hello there all you Sansevieria people.
Robert (my better half ) and I have just returned home after 6 weeks
tripping around the States. He nearly lost me a couple of times while in
Florida, at least twice I came across some Sansevieria in the gardens. Both
times I stopped to study and both times I nearly had to sing when I returned
to the bus. (If you were last on the bus, and everyone was waiting, you had
to sing.) Fortunately one passenger, and on one occasion the driver were the
only ones to entertain the rest of us.
It was wonderful to see the Sansevieria growing in gardens. Something that
will never be seen here.
I have no idea what species of Sansevieria they were as I do not have
either of these plants in my modest collection, but I was impressed.
Locality- well we went to many, many places, but I seem to remember one
locality was at one time the winter home of the Ringling Bros Circus. A
beautiful place.
Unfortunately with our restriction on importing I was not able to take any
cuttings, and was I tempted. Many plants had flowered, but there was no seed
visible.
So I am here to beg for anyone who may have any excess Sansevieria seed, no
matter how common the plant, I would really appreciate a couple of seed if
it were to come my direction. (It might not be so common here). I may be
contacted at elevens@southnet.co.nz
After our tour of Florida we flew to Denver and enjoyed a Coach tour of Mt
Rushmore and the canyons, Bryce, Zion and the Grand Canyons, all quite
different. Oh, we didn't see the Presidents on the mountain, they kept their
heads well and truly hidden behind the cloud. Before the two Coach trips we
spent 10 days in Washington State, where I met and enjoyed the company of a
longtime penfriend. I have to admit though, much as I enjoyed the States
there is no place like home.
All the time we traveled we kept in contact with home via hotmail on the
Internet, what a great service. We sent and received messages almost every
day.
Regards to you all, may your winter be kind to you, we are still trying to
get rid of ours.
