Re: Identity needed

Identity needed (Supannee's mystery plants)

Dear Supannee,

It is amazing how many different plants have been passing as Sans.stuckyi
out there. It must be rather frustrating too. A major botanical garden has
a plant labeled Sans.stuckyi too. That one turned out to be Sans.rorida.

I think the confusion may stem from the illustration in Brown's Sansevieria
monograph. His fig. 10 for Sans.stuckyi shows both a typical vegetative
plant and a juvenile one above it. The juvenile plant has spreading leaves
that are channeled above. Still it is not clear why so many have equated
plants widely different looking plants with it. I believe there is a plant
misidentified as Sans.stuckyi in A.B. Graf's books too.

I agree with Kirk's identifications but as he said, it is difficult to be
certain of the identities of such young plants. It would be helpful if a
ruler were placed alongside the plants to get a better idea of their size.

Stuckyi #1 - May indeed be the genuine Sans.stuckyi. Your plant appears to
be in a transitional state from the juvenile to the adult form. The mature
plant produces its cylindrical leaves singly like Sans.fischeri
(Sans.singularis) but differs by their being smooth and glossy. (for
pictures of Sans.stuckyi see: The Sansevieria Journal 2 (3): 67, fig. 2,
68, fig. 3 (1993); 3 (3): 57, fig. (1994))

Stuckyi #2 - First impression is that it may be Sans.pearsonii
(Sans.deserti).

Stuckyi #3 - May be Sans.fischeri (Sans.singularis). Does it resemble your
other plant of that species? This plant is also changing from the juvenile
to adult form. (for pictures of adult flowering Sans.fischeri see: The
Sansevieria Journal 2 (4): 88-90 fig. 1 I-III (1993))

Stuckyi #4 - Looks like a larger growing selection of the variable
Sans.aethiopica

Mystery #1 - Does indeed suggest a selection of Sans.hyacinthoides.

Anyone else want to take a chance at identifying these mystery plants?

Hello to all,

This post is a follow up to my earlier inquiries to the list (July 13 & 19)
regarding Sans stuckyi.

We now have 5 pictures of the unknown sans on the "mystery" page. Four of
the five are supposedly "Stuckyi". Would realy be great if they could have
their own true identities.

THANKS for your help!
