Education Program Manager

Introduction: This is full-time professional and administrative staff 
position in the employ of the Leila Arboretum Society.  The employee works 
with considerable latitude in developing, organizing and managing 
educational programming and reports to the Executive Director.

Qualifications: College graduate in horticulture, plant science, 
environmental science, education or similar field.  At least two years of 
appropriate experience leading comparable programs.

Responsibilities: Develop and manage programs to build awareness and 
knowledge of plants.  Candidate will conduct either the Adult or Youth 
Program and will supervise staff member for the other.

Adult Education
Organize instruction for MSU Calhoun County Master Gardener Volunteer 
Program
Develop and oversee the Adult Continuing Education Program
Produce and implement educational input for student staff program (high   
school and college)
Work with staff, volunteers and other agencies to expand the educational 
roll of the Society
Provide direction for the Master Gardener Association

Youth Education and Training
Direct the development of school age programming compatible with the 
Michigan Education Assessment Program including input for Children's 
Adventure Garden
Introduce of the programs into the area school districts
Supervise student trainee and volunteer in outreach and site based programs 
(K-12)

Additional Activities
Contribute to media materials such as newsletter, newspaper articles, 
magazines
Present informative and educational programs to groups
Assist in other areas as directed

Skills, Experience, Qualities:
Experienced at creating and implementing education programs
Innovative self-starter able to produce enthusiasm for educational program
Possesses accurate knowledge of plant science, horticultural principles and 
facts
Thinks strategically, plans activities well in advance, and Enjoys strong 
organizing skills
Able to manage numerous projects at once
Demonstrates confidence in working with public and finesse in working with 
agency partners
Capable of directing the efforts of others; team player in small 
organization
Communicates effectively with diverse groups
Ability to prepare project proposals and to write grant applications
Computer literacy with MS Office products preferred
