Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I just had to jump in on this subject. This being the second season at this
house I decided to expand the garden to 14' x 21', to include everything from
veges to herbs to flowers (to attracte bees). Last year it was 4 rectangle
beds of 4'x9' but this year I decided to go a little crazy and reconfigured
the whole thing in a different design. I now have a total of six various
sized beds and a three foot wide border along the shady back part of the bed
for shade loving flowers and starting perennial seedings in the summer. Let
me tell you, I am only doing one bed at a time as I need to plant it. The
snow pea and spinach seedlings are coming up nicely. The brassicas are in
(transplants from seed), and next will be the bed for the root crops. An
Excel spread sheet was helpful in making the square foot designs come to life
when I was planning this.
The weather here in Barnegat, NJ has been fairly nice, although today it was
a bit chilly for my taste. Being I work 2 jobs/7 days a week, I only have a
few hours on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and nites after dinner to work the
garden, but square footing it helps keep it managable and easy to keep track
of.
Am so glad spring is finally here, now if it would just warm up a bit more!
Debbie
