Dorothy.
Sounds pretty much the same here. (I've heard conflicts re: whether we are
zone 4 or 5, doesn't matter much, not safe from frost until "after the
first full moon in June." Then our killing frost usually comes
mid-September, followed by a couple few weeks of absolutely gorgeous Indian
Summer, in October then winter starts in earnest.)
Bought my first seed today from the Farm Store... onion sets, spinach,
peas, broccoli, tomatoes & morning glories. We've had an exceptionally
early spring (I guess along with the rest of the country) so I'm thinking
the ground may be ready for my cooler weather crops (frost-tolerant) a
little earlier this year, and then the 'maters I want to start indoors,
'cause with our SHORT growing season (~100 days) I always seem to end up
with GREEN tomatoes come fall!
Kids planted sunflower seeds with Grandma in egg cartons this morning. (my
suggestion was just to plant some birdseed and see what came up, but
Grandma thought sunflowers would be more fun. Any ideas when it will be
safe to put them out?? Hopefully they won't outgrow the house before they
can go to the garden. We will be moving them into paper pots just as soon
as they sprout, to give them a little room.)
Dawn
rambling on when she should be sleeping...
