Re: Clematis

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

When I planted Clematis before -It did well with morning full sun and
partial shade in the afternoon(one one side of ther house) but not in full
blazing afternoon sun on the west side. I grew it from cuttings I took and
after it got established it looked like it died(sob) . But the next spring-
it came back in blazing fuscia glory.-You gotta train it early to go up a
trellis becasue the vines are real delicate and hard to unwind.I wish it
didn't die back in the winter.Does everyones? I have bought so few plants in
my life- I just take clippings and root them and then plant them later-so
half the time I don't even know what I have- only how it looks. Have
something beautiful called Watsonia(found the picture-looked it up) that
someone was throwing away last year(dumpster diving!) and it is blooming and
lovely. I don't know much of what I am doing- I just plunk stuff in the
ground and figure I can move it if it is not happy- Everything grows pretty
good anyways- probably becasue of the compost. Have never made enough of my
own to really cover all the beds- so get it cheap from the city- $5 for as
much as I can stuff into my big old ugly station wagon. Sunflowers are
coming up- They always get eaten my some nasty worm before they get 8 inches
high- so I cut off the top and bottom of the little cat food cans and put
them over the plant-so far so good-Just have to remember to take them off
before the plant gets to big or they will be there for the whole season.I
apologize for my typing- I am a lousy typer and speller and just too
imaptient to spellcheck much. I have better things to do-
like -gardening!_teri
