Cold feet in the Square foot garden

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Well you guys- I got my lasagna beds all in and trellises up and have
everything ready to go-but I am scared to plant anything! I am worried about
the lasagna beds- I read everything on the net about the layering
method-several about doing it with SQ ft. methods-but it just seems scary to
put my little plants into all that stuff! Have never done veggies before and
find that after all the trouble and expense- don't want to make a mistake by
planting when it is too windy or rainy or soggy- or if my soil isn't warm
enough-covered my beds with plastic and let the beds sit for almost 2
weeks-becasue I don't trust that the chicken poop-although aged- won't burn
up the babies. Is that stupid or what? I have been flower gardening by the
seat of my pants for years and gotten pretty good results-in spite of my
ignorance.Now I read a darned book and feel like I don't know a thing.I
don't know what I am so worried about... Everything- How to keep the darn
cats out-slugs ?-what the heck is a cutworm? and-I think the compost pile is
too close to the garden-but there is no where else to put it.-I could only
put trellises on the north end of the beds-because there are fruit trees on
the south end. Oh poop. I sound like an idiot. I am in Northern Ca for God's
sake- it has been beautiful weather for a month- in the 70's and it is
suddenly cold and rainy.I read about you all putting stuff out in cold
frames in the snow and know I should just stick something in-I have Mels
book-but he doesn't talk about cats and slugs- and his pictures look much
neater than my garden. My strings aren't all that straight and I couldn't
find any woodashes to put in with the mix. I am going to shut up now- please
forgive my garden paranoia and somebody tell me what to do.-Teri
