At that same website there was also an interesting article on basil.

They talk about growing a 4'x8' bed of 7 kinds of basil, spaced one per
square foot.  That seems a little sparse to me.  Anyone have a different
basil spacing?  They also suggest snipping off the growing tip at
transplant.  That seems a bit early to do that doesn't it?  They show a
picture of snipping when there are only about three sets of leaves on
plant.  I guess it worked though, the late season picture was full of
beautiful basil.
