Nice to meet you Anita. I like my neighbours fine. Marty and Lorrie next door are patient with me and my gardening hobby. We help each other out with heavy work around the yard.

Hope your garden grows like crazy!

Speaking about neighbors....

I stared renting this house that I'm in now back in
January.  The new neighborhood is filled with retirees
with just a few "youngin's" (we're the youngest couple
in the block). I thought that maybe my neighbors were
stuck-up or something because during the first 2
months, not ONE neighbor came over to say hi.

But then we started to put in the garden.  The
neighbor behind us stuck his head over the fence the
weekend we were building frames and digging up the
ground and asked what the *&%$* we were doing.  I took
a few minutes to explain the theory behind sq. ft
gardening.  His reaction, "You ain't gonna grow
anything in that soil, missy."  Well, duh!  It's FL
beach clay! But I explained that we were digging out
all the "icky" dirt and replacing it with a more
nutritious combination.

Another stopped his car in front of our house one
evening while we were on "weed patrol" and wished us
luck.  "I can't never get rid of those darn weeds in
my yard."

And yesterday, the young man that lives next to us (he
and his girlfriend are the next youngest on the block)
stopped Rob while he was watering the garden.  He
asked what we were doing and why were we growing in
boxes and how do we know that it'll work and what were
we growing and what were we expected to get....He kept
poor Rob busy until I got home an hour later.  Seems
that he wants to start a garden too but it seemed to
be just too much work. I promised that he could borrow
Mel's book this weekend.

Hmmm...well, even if I don't get any good veggies out
of this garden this year, atleast it got my neighbors
to talk to me!

(It was explained to us last night that the last
tenants were obnoxious pigs that had 2 little dogs
that destroyed everything and kept everyone up at
night.  AND they never took care of the yard...the
neighbor was mumbling something about waist-high weeds
on the front yard.  WOW!!!!!)

Oops...I'm droning along.  And it's 8 AM.  Gotta get
to work!

Annie
