I've done the same thing but I didn't have an audience
at the time!
Plumbing pipe is a good idea if you have some lying
around. I ended up using 1/2 inch electrical metal
tubing (EMT). It's very sturdy and oh so cheap. I paid
$0.125 a foot. I did put some of that PVC to use. I
cut short pieces and attached them to the inside of
the raised bed at the corners. Then I just slipped the
EMT into the PVC "sleeves".
