Will they ever!  In my case they are digging in my garden (probably
to find the acorns they hid there last fall) they have dug up many of my
peas, they don't eat them, just dig them up.  I find that if I put down
plastic (this time of year to keep the garden from getting too wet)
they leave everything alone.
