When I'm reading your post, I immediately think of shade. Where I live, we
have cool summers, so I would tend to put my upright supports on the north
end of my bed, so as not to shade any other plants. Those living where the
summer weather is hotter, would probably do the opposite, if they are trying
to shade some of their plants, to help keep them cool. You'll have to
decide what secondary needs (besides the support of the plants!) you have,
when deciding where to place your uprights. Just my thoughts... (and I'm
sure this isn't original to me, but probably after gleaning ideas from the
folks on this list for the last few years!)
