I haven't had a problem with animals, just make sure that you don't
try and compost any fats or meats, only vegetables and yard wastes.
Of course acorns could attract the squirls but some acorns strewn
about wouldn't hurt anyone. The carnivorous animals are attracted
to the fats and meats. That includes squash with butter on it, or
anything cooked in oil. I only use raw vegetable waste, yard waste,
and paper.
