Hi all -
Here's my list for this year. I've cut back on the number of plants I'm
putting in to make room for a sweet corn patch, and also because my poor
benighted wife doesn't like fresh tomatoes (I think she was raised by
wolves). I've got a mix of hybrids and heirlooms this year:
Amana Orange (80 days) - Orange beefsteak-type 'mater. Really more of a
golden color,
it's the only orange type worth eating in my opinion. The taste is a
somewhat milder
version of the classic red beefsteak.
Classica VFFNA (76 d) - A paste tomato. This one is supposedly on the way
to becoming the successor to Roma. It's supposedly less prone to blossom
end rot than most paste types, a big plus in the erratic climate I live in
(Eastern Nebraska).
Dona OP (65 d)- An open-pollinated version of the French hybrid. Obtained
from Chuck Wyatt.
Fourth of July (48 d) - One of my early-season varieties. Pretty darned
good for an early-season tomato in my experience.
Heatwave II (68 d) - Another super hybrid, this one chosen as a hedge
against a repeat of last year's hot, dry, nasty summer.
Juliet (60 d) - A great grape tomato. 'Nuff said.
Mortgage Lifter VFN (90 d) - Bought this from Chuck Wyatt as well. If The
Man Upstairs likes tomatoes, it wouldn't surprise me if this was His
favorite.
Mountain Princess (60 d) - A third variety from Chuck Wyatt. This is a
smaller, early-season tomato. I'll be very interested to see how this one
works out.
Old Flame (80 d) - A orange-red bicolor beefsteak. Bought from Shepherd's
Seeds.
Viva Italia (80 d) - Another Roma-type hybrid. Goes well in sauces; I
usually freeze a couple zillion quarts of this baby.
