Re: A new name for SQFT Gardening

I wrote:
>Does somebody know of a better name for SQFT gardening?

And you gave me lots of answers, on the list and privately.
Thank you very much! I'd like to give some background for the question
and some comments about the answers.

In trying to make SQFT gardening more popular in continental Europe,
I soon recognized that the name of the method is not only unintelligible,
it is rather ridiculous for somebody not knowing a "foot" to be a measure.
In german, it translates to "Quadratlatschengaertnern". To illustrate this,
if you retranslate the construct -- which has some "popular" meaning --
it will become "Huge Slippers Gardening". C'mon.

Now some of the proposals:

Koelsch Gardening
-----------------
This was the favorite (Koelsch is chequered cloth), it's written with o-Umlaut,
exactly, instead of "oe". Nice, but not very specific. But the favorite.

Square Foot Gardening
---------------------
Two people told me to leave the name of the method alone. I would prefer that.
But see above; and, again, what is a square foot (ask cont. Europeans...)?

FIG (French Intensive Gardening)
-------------------------------
Three people recommended it, but as an European, I dare to say that this is
very misleading. And does not illuminate anything about the squares.

Square Bed Gardening (SBG)
--------------------------
Simply the most straightforward, in my and another poster's opinion.

Now when I -- one day, maybe -- really translate The Book, I have some
good ideas. Thank you again.
