Hello!
I am also new to SQFT gardening. I have a large raised bed in my
backyard - 12' X 24' This is new to me, as last year I fought the GA
red clay without much success. So, my husband ordered a truckload of
topsoil for me, thus my new raised bed. We have shaped it into the 12
X 24 bed with sloped sides, and at present it has two
truckloads of well-rotted horse manure (compliments of a local
stable and my pitchfork) layered on top while my husband rebuilds the
carbeurator on the tiller. I have read the book, mapped out my
SQFT garden on graph paper and am anxiously awaiting the tilling and
last freeze date (April 30th) to begin my adventure.
I have some questions:
- Are all SQFT gardens veggie gardens? Mine will be.
- Are the wires that separate the 1X1 squares a necessity?
- How deep/tall usually are raised beds?
- I like the idea of up-front planting for proper plant spacing (no
thinning), but do you plant just one seed or possibly two or three
to ensure you get a plant if one seed does not germinate?
.
THANKS!!
