Hi Sean:
I generally use a liquid food (SeaMix, 3-2-2, a mix of fish and kelp
extract -- moderately aromatic, but effective!), diluting it a bit
more than the label recommends and using it every time I need to
water (around here, July can get pretty dry). This helps compensate
for the 'wash-through' effect you can have with plants in containers.
Of course, making the soil you plant in as rich as possible helps,
too -- I use as much compost as I can in my container mix.
I know how you feel about the weather -- our high for today was a
whole 49 big degrees, under cloudy skies. (Where are you, Stevens
Point?) Last weekend's snow has all melted, though, so I guess some
progress is being made! Started some more tomato and pepper seeds
today and potted up my Joseph's Coat chard and purple Kohlrabi
seedlings -- if it weren't for fluorescent lights, winter here would
*truly* make me crazy.
Happy trails.....
