Re: square foot gardening, plant spacing

This is my 3rd year planting corn in my sqft garden. The first year, I
planted 1 per sqft, as described in Mel's book. I got 16 wonderful ears!
All fully polinated.

Last year, I semi-tried the method from Mel's article in OG magazine.
Instead of 4 per sqft, I planted 6 across (36 total) in a 4' bed which
works out to 2.25 per sqft. I got 20 great ears, 10 semi-pollinated ears,
and 5 "stubs," and 2 no-shows. There really seemed to be a problem with
pollination in hte closely planted stalks. Of course, the high humidity in
New Orleans could have been a factor.

This year, I'm trying 5 across (25 total) in a 4' bed, 1.5 per sqft. For
all three years I used the same corn variety. It seems that about 20
stalks is the max production for me and my situation.
