Help--spider mites!!

I have spider mites on my Jalapenos seedlings in my apartment.  What can
I use that won't kill me in the process?  How did they get on these
plants in the first place?  The plants are about 6 inches tall and were
growing great.  I first noticed what looked like spider webs around the
main stems and the leaf stems.
