The long zucchini that one of our listmembers referred to the other day is called Trombone squash or "Zuchetta Rapicante" . Seeds are available through Sheppards in New England. This variety grows on a trellis or other climbing aid quite rapidly but has some drawbacks. 1. Flavor is dissimilar to zucchini but not unpleasant. 2. Flowers require hand pollination for decent yields. 3. Needs lots of tying to protect from knockdown as a result of storms. As to zucchini on a trellis, I believe (and have tried) a modified version of what you propose. The main vine will continue to grow and put out flowers, but does better when supported about a foot or so above the ground vs. straight up. *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
