The general affluence of your area dictates what sort of niche markets can
be supplied with specialty items like those in the fancy catalogs.  The fact
that people *with* retailing experience have not already explored this in
Louisville should be a red flag to you.

The greater Washington, DC, area (4+ million and one of the most affluent
SAMSA's according to the U.S. census) supports only one retail nursery
operation with a wide selection of the materials you allude to:  Behnke's.
Furthermore, Behnke's prices for this stuff are always *higher than* the
catalogs you mention.

Move very cautiously in this matter, Toni.
