Tire containers

Hi Jan,

I'm starting a school demonstration garden and would like to show tires as containers. Any tips what I should do? Do you paint them to prevent overheating? And do you turn them inside-out to make a "bowl" type container? I visited a great school garden where each child had their own tire garden.

Thanks, Heidi in Central CA

In what part of the state is Vance? I live in NW GA, close to
Centre, Gadsden and Fort Payne. >>

Vance is in western alabama halfway between Birmingham and Tuscaloosa.
IT FROZE HERE LAST NIGHT!!! I covered all of the vegies... the eggplant is
blooming as are some of the pepper plants. I sure do wish the cuces would
fruit for me I'm longing for homegrown cucumber. I use the square foot method
in tires. I'm going to try corn this year. We live on land that has been in
the maternal family for over 150 years. We only have a son so I broke
tradition. I'm 4 weeks away from 40 and to damn old to have another kid!!!My
chives are bloomong and I'd never used chive blooms in a salad but WOW were
they good!!! Hows your garden coming along??
