Help--my gophers are getting out or control and taking over the garden (flower beds and herb beds, luckily I put hardware cloth under my raised beds). I've tried the gas sticks and now have 2 traps, but no success. Every morning I find more damage and I'm very upset. My daughter says live and let live, but I can't do that with my plants I've nurtured with so much care. Any helpful advise (or sympathy) appreciated. We have just built our first square foot garden (4 ft * 8 ft * 12 in) and filled it with compost and peat moss. Our reason for building this raised bed was because of black walnut trees and the inability to grow many veggies on our property that are sensitive. Questions: After this first year (hopefully plentiful!), what will be the condition of the soil for next year and years to come? Will the walnut poison leach through from the bottom soil? Will busy squirrels hiding nuts pollute the garden? Thanks.... *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
