Re: New squarefooter/walnut trees!


I heard from my family in Wisconsin that black walnut trees are very valuable for their lumber. They planted 300 and hope to finance their grandchildren's college with them in 20 years!

Can't you EAT the black walnuts? Or sell them if you have a lot? Or give away?

I too am a new square foot gardener. I just finished tilling the
manure into my raised bed. I built mine becuase of GA red clay
problems and no topsoil in my garden spot.

I also have black walnut trees, but they are not too near my
garden spot. I don't expect squirrel problems (my cats will help
prevent that).

This topic prompts me to ask: does anyone know of practical uses for
black walnuts. They seem to be a nuisance more than anything else.
