Re: spacing for toms in cages/scallions?

Drea,
I don't have The Book here but the bush spacing should be fine. My comment
concerns your supports, don't buy tomato cages. If you go to the store and buy
'Tomato Cages' you get those flimsy 3ft tall cone things...absolutely
worthless(IMHO). By mid summer, just as the fruit is forming the 'cage' will
fail under the crush of growing plant. Buy 6"x6" concrete reinforcing wire.
Stake a 8-16" diameter cylinder of that over each plant and everyone will know
you are an expert;-)

P.S. The list got so slow I was sure my computer was broken. Thanks for writing
in.

(Ceylon and Cosmonaut Volkov) are indeterminant, so if I did use the
un-trellised squares, I'd have to rig up some kind of support -- I'm
leaning towards cages, mostly because that is what my
only-friend-who-gardens uses. If I did this, do you all think I should
use Mel's spacing for bush tomatoes?

Another spacing question while I have your ears: I'm growing some
Evergreen Hardy White scallions -- since they will be harvested before they
ever get to mature onion-size (or maybe they'll never get to that size?
I'm still a bit confused about the scallion thing...), can I space them
more closely than the typical onion spacing?
