I had a problem too, did a soil test and found it a little lacking in potash.
Acording to Mel's formula, a pail (2 1/2 gal) of wood ash is part of the
formula. I got some 0-0-60, it's cheap and applied acording to directions.
I've found that the soil is so loose that frequent feedings of a balanced
fertilizer is needed. I use a 10-10-10 or a 12-12-12, what's ever on sale and
test the soil every year. Wouldn't hurt to add a little Ironite either.
