Re: Zucchini
Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I, too, have lost many of my Zukes to the dreaded Squash Vine Borers.
I am going to try "floating row covers" this year and hope for the
best. I have heard that putting alluminum foil on the ground around
the base of the stem helps (something about the light reflecting
confuses the adult bugs into not laying eggs there) and then putting
the foil AROUND the base stem up to a height of foot. I am also going
to try a few other techniques, such as successive plantings every
three or four weeks; hydroponics for the squash plant (safe indoors,
and one outdoors with a floating row cover). Maybe this year I will
actually get a few zucchini before the SVB do. I am also open to any
and all reasonable (and totally unreasonable TOO!) suggestions.
