Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
More than 10 years ago, there was an article in Organic Gardening about
outwitting destructive bugs such as squash borers. Their remedy was to
plant summer squash (including zucchini) two weeks before the normal date
(and hope that the weather cooperated) and to plant a second crop three
weeks after the normal planting date. The theory was that squash borers run
in cycles, and by planting outside the normal time frame, a crop was spared
most of the damage by borers at their prime. The first crop encountered
only juveniles, and the second crop had to cope with mature, egg-laying and
dying borers. It works! That is how I've always planted my squash and
melons. And I never have borer or beetle (another pest that decimates
squash) problems.
