Jane tried to grow sprouts for years with no luck.

This winter she bought a Northrup King "Kitchen Crop" sprouter (about
$10). Simple as a brick, with no moving parts, it has a syphon system
which seems to always keep the seeds at the proper moisture level.

No odor, and delicious sprouts in 3 to 4 days. Instructions are easy to
follow, and once you get started all you have to do is add fresh water and
drain the excess water (which, high in nutrients, goes on house plants).
You can use 1,2 or 3 levels, with different seeds on each level. You can
start different levels on different days for a continuous fresh crop.

We've had great luck with alfalfa, broccoli, radish, and lentil sprouts.
The radish sprouts are nice and spicy. This morning I pulled some straight
out of the sprouter for my omlette.

The alfalfa seeds come from a food co-op, and the lentils from a grocery
store. Cheaper than buying packaged seeds, which may be treated. NK also
sells "NK Kitchen Crop Seeds for Sprouting", including a Stir Fry Mix and a
Zesty Salad & Sandwich Mix. A few bucks worth of the NK sprouting seeds
lasts for months.

It works so well she bought a 2nd one for starting garden flower seeds,
which do take a little longer. For the garden seeds she uses diluted tea
instead of filtered water. Much easier than the tea soaked paper towels
she used to use. You have to be careful with really small seeds or they
may go down the siphon.

Sorry to use so much bandwidth, but it's nice to find a product that works
even better than you hoped it would.
