Re: Exotic Veggies

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I usually grow broccoli rabe, but not as part of a mesclun mix. It is
a great vegetable, but when mature should be cooked (I boil it, drain
it, cook pasta in the water used to boil it. Chop it up some and
saute it in a pan with some olive oil & garlic. Put it on the pasta
with a good grated cheese.) Anyway, there are several varieties of
broccoli rabe (Cima di rape). There is a very early maturing one (40
or so days) along with some that take 50-60 days. It likes cool
weather so grow it in the spring or fall. I have had ok success in
transplanting it, but it seems to prefer direct seeding. Does well in
a fertile well drained soil (but then what does not). Enjoy it.
Italians really know their vegetables.

Bill McKay in E. Mass(where the broccoli rabe in my unheated hoop
house will be ready to cut the end of the week).

>My first time to interact with "any" list so excuse the poor
netiquette (appreciate the "better communication tips" from
experienced list members). Re: exotic vegetables such as mizuna,
tatzoi & broccoli raab... I am preparing to order three varieties of
mesclune from www.richters.com. and I know they have mizuna and raab.
Has anyone had any experience with them? I believe they are in Canada
so I hope they ship to the U.S. Saw that Shepherd's was mentioned in
an earlier message. Do they have a website? Appreciate the follow-up I
anticipate.
