RE: Marking the Squares?

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Kim,
You may want to mark your squares to make sure you get the best use of
your space while allowing the proper spacing for each plant type.
My first year I got some bamboo skewers, the type used for making
shish-kebabs, and marked the outsides of each plot and 1 foot areas by
running twine around the skewers. This did not make for the sturdiest
markers, but was quick and cheap and served what I needed, which was to
mark the squares for planting. You may want something more permanent if
you will be planting late season crops, but this is good for a start and
is easy to remove if you find you don't want to continue square foot
gardening or want to make something more permanent next season.

Good Luck,

Hi everyone. I was just curious if everyone marks your squares before
planting or do you just measure them out or eyeball them. I was
thinking about using string or something this year, but my problem is
that once the seeds come up and are growing well, I put down mulch to
conserve water and that will cover up my square markings anyway. What
do you think?
