Re: Preen and other weed controls

Preen and other products such as Amaze (Greenlight corp.) are pre-emergent 
weed preventers. If you have weeds then these products will not work. 
Pre-emergents prevent weed seeds from germinating so must be applied prior to 
weeds being seen. The best way to get rid of weeds is good old fashion hand 
pulling or using something like Weed Popper, a mechanical weed puller.
I would not recommend using Preen or any other chemical based weed preventer 
on food crops (Preen makes a vegetable garden weed preventer). If you want to 
go organic use Corn Meal Gluten. This will prevent weed (and other seeds) 
from germinating and is safe. Do not apply any pre emergent to newly planted 
seeds as the product will prevent the germination of crop seeds also.
