Re: Help! Nobody's replying

Dori,
I thought about replying, but since I'm new to gardening in general and
veggie gardening in particular, I figured I'd leave the answers to
someone more experienced. Sorry they're not speaking up.

If I were you, though, I would trust what what the organic place has to
offer, and I would pump them for more info about local soil conditions.
And read as much as you can! The organic folks can probably recommend
some good books to you.

Compost is always good to add, as it improves soil texture and helps
with drainage (breaking up clay, and preventing sand from draining TOO
quickly). Is it possible to add too much compost? I don't know. Maybe
someone else on the list can answer
this.

Well-aged herbivore manure is good, too, I'm told. I got several bushels
of donkey manure, which I am told is very nice to have, and even better
then horse or cow manure (though it's not clear to me why).

If you are starting seeds indoors, use a soil-less mix (usually a mix of
peat moss and vermiculite).

Good luck!
