Elizabeth,
I use the netting over hoops constructed with lengths of black polyethylene
pipe.
Home Depot also sells rebar already cut in 2 foot lengths. Push the rebars
in the ground along the edge of your bed, slip a section of pipe over, and
arc it over to the other side. Lay your netting over and you have a mini
hoop house for the taller plants.
It works for critter proofing, but I've got to say that it is still a major
pain to lift the netting and work in the beds.
