sqft: preservation and recipes are not appropriate

[Another message from your sqft list admin that I think you
should save for future reference.]

I know that in central North America, it is starting towards
that time when folks are beginning to harvest, and beginning to
have lots of questions about how to can/freeze/dry the bounty
from their sqft gardens, as well as some new ideas to use
up that 1000th zucchini or tomato. However, the sqft gardening
list is NOT the place for this. Let me offer some pointers to
elsewhere on the Net to find these answers in hopes of cutting down
on the inevitable inappropriate postings.

Those of you with access to a news/usenet server should
read the rec.food groups for recipes. One group, rec.food.preserving,
has a wonderful FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions list)
that should answer all your questions about
canning/freezing/drying.
Look at:
     http://www.lib.ox.ac.uk/internet/news/rec.food.html
for links to that and many other food-related FAQs.

For those who need more detail about herbs in particular, check out:
    http://sunsite.unc.edu/herbmed/culiherb.html
which is the Culinary Herb FAQ.

Aside from not cluttering up the sqft list, you will find that
since FAQ's are the accumulated wisdom of thousands of people over
several years, you will get more complete and reliable answers
there than you will from the sometimes off-the-cuff sqft list answers.

If anyone out there in sqft-list-land is interested but does
not have web access, email me directly (NOT THE LIST!) and I'll
be happy to send you instructions on how you can get web pages
sent to you via email.

determined that my next posting to the sqft list will actually
be about gardening for a change! Sigh.
