Re: Looking for out of the ordinary vegetable suggestions

Keith, if you are really hung up on Iceberg, try Grand Rapids, Great Lakes
or one of the "head" type letuce. If you want flavor, go to the butterheads
and the leaf lettuces or the mescum from Jardin, Johnny's, or orher
speciality suppliers.

Suggestion for this fall, mix the lettuce seed (any) witha carrot of your
choosing, a radish such as French Breakfast, and possibly an onion seed
which may or may not work depending on your locale. The radish will come up
first and provide the shade for the lettuce. The carrot will be th elast to
appear. I call it my mixed salad row and make my own blends of 4-6 leaf
lettuces. You will be pulling the radishes before the carrots are deady to
go.

Rich

PS: The definition of iceberg lettuce among the long term vegetable people
is a water filled green container shipped from coast-to-coast.
