Can anyone tell me what this beetle is? It's on my edible gourds. The biggest ones are about 3/8" long,1/4" wide. They're light orange, and have 14 spots (on the "main body")- Ithink-I'm not sure whether to count a couple of the splotches as 2 or not, as they're right in the middle where I guess the wings meet- so it's either 12 or 14, with "14" being the number I think is correct. These spots are in three rows: 2 on the bottom, then 2 rows of 6.If I didn't know better, I would have thought they were lady bugs. The closest thing I can find in my "bug books" are Mexican bean beetles, but the spot patterns are different (and all the books claim those always have 16 spots).THese also mostly ignore the neighboring beans and head for the gourds! Also, if anyone ID's them, do the larva look like little worms?(Or is that ANOTHER thing I have to contend with!) Thanks for your help! Please e-mail me directly with any response.
