I find this true. For the last couple of years we have always picked our tomatoes when they go pink. I put a card table up with a cover in the dark corner of the back room and they do very well there. Also we too, have learned to pick cucumbers as early as is feasible as they are sweeter. We've had a drier summer this year and yet our cucumbers do remain sweet but have a tendency to have those smiley face holes where the seeds were but have shrunk.
