I assume from reading the below that this means trimming the oldest
leaves and leaving the new growth at the top. I am also concerned with
getting my green tomatoes to ripen. I heard that it would also help to
pinch off any new flowers to prevent any more new fruit from setting.
Any feedback on this method?

I suggest trimming leaves from the bottom up. I leave a few leaves near
the
tomatoes to prevent sunburn on the tomatoes. Within a week my green
tomatoes
ripen up quickly when previously they had been green for a long long
time. I
read this method in a Rodale Organic Gardening book and have been very
pleased with the results.
