Hi
Last year I promised a report on my T Tape system, I didn't get it up, This
year I did.
The short version is that I am disappointed. I think that Soaker TUBING (or
Soaker Dripline- see DRIPWORKS, below) will work out better. I am committed
to T Tape as I bought 2000' at a close out and am making the best of it. I
have not done enough research on the soaker tubing and will make a report
when I so do.
The probs are:
Foreign matter WILL get in the individual outlet channel and plug THAT
channel. (A 200 mesh filter will clean up the source water, but foreign
matter from work on pipes, supply tubing et al is difficult to keep out.
Getting around corners is impossible with the T Tape, it swells into a round
tube when operational and simply kinks at the corners. This doesn't seem to
damage the tape, but it does limit flow. I shall fix this! One can buy
corner fixtures for the 5/8" tape but not the 3/8" that I have (2000' of.) I
think that 5/8" tape would be overkill.
It's very time consuming to set up numerous 4' or 6' runs of tape, not to
mention the expense of the adapter parts.
This system is perfect for row crops up to 600' runs. I think that it
provides good control of the amount of water delivered to specific areas and
virtually eliminates air evaporation losses. With controllers it can be
timed
to deliver irrigation during the best time of day, ad inf.
It is not a realistic system for SQ-FT gardens except for beds of10'+ long.
For those of you that are interested, DRIPWORKS, 231 E. San Francisco St.,
Willits, CA 95490, www.dripworksusa.com or E-mail dripworks@pacific.net have
been JUST GREAT!!!!!! (USUAL DISCLAIMERS) They have been very forthcoming w/
info and have GREAT prices. They provide mat'ls for a variety of systems. I
have been very pleased with service and delivery, and I'm tough to please.
Further reports as info available.
