A few Israeli companies are at the forefront of the dripper/emitter technology.
One with a website is Netafim. They have a nice diagram that explains the
self-cleaning, pressure regulating mechanism. Garden centers here sell tape with
these emitters by the reel and by the meter.
Olin's experiences of soaker hose failure with high-mineral content water is
matched by my own: I know someone who brought soaker hoses from the US when he
moved here to Israel, and they failed miserably after 2 years of use. This is
also backed up by the advice given out here in Israel (where all agriculture
involves irrigation with hard water from June to September), which favors
emitters over soakers.
