customizing soil for container vegie gardening (fwd)

In various books I have seen it hinted at that one can create different
soil mixtures to suit the preferences of the different vegetables,but I've
never seen this laid out in detail (they then give an "all-purpose" mix,
which spoils the fun!). I like to experiment, so the idea of
doing this appeals to me. Right now I am interested in making a container
mixture for some Chinese brassicas (mustard cabbage,
mustard,cabbage). The soil descriptions are "moderately rich,moist,
friable, well-drained". Anyone know a suitable mix? I do not want to use
any bagged mixtures containing ingredients of unknown prportions.

I would like to know what proportions of ingredients to use to meet the
following various requirements (not all at once of course):

rich,moderately rich,poor;light,heavy;loamy,medium
loamy,slightly sandy,sandy;friable;good,average good,average;loose,firm;
fertile;humusy;moist,dry;well-drained;well-aerated,porous

Anyone with any experience at playing around with this kind of thing, or
know of sources that address it specifically?
Thanks,
Peg Daniels
