I'm sure that crowding *helps* pollenation. I plan to plant more corn than
before, to make sure there is plenty of pollen to go around.
However, crowding also seems to result in light starvation for those on the
north side of the square. (my garden only gets 5 - 6 hours of sun a day,
thanks to neighboring woods that are not mine to chop down.) So, I plan to
give each plant a bit more southern exposure. Then, with luck, they will
all pollenate at the same time.
With your high-density planting, did you see stunted or delayed growth on
the north (shady) side of the square?
