Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Regarding potatoes and yield: Last night we got hungry for some new
potatoes and I went out and dug about four hills. Although we've had bad
weather, I got pretty good yield from each plant (I had planted one seed
tater per sq ft and hilled with dirt as they grew). Harvested about 2-3
big potatoes and a few smaller ones per hill.
Now for my question. I had dug a couple hills about 3-4 weeks ago and
gotten some new baby potatoes (which were really good). At that time, the
seed potato was there and just "old" looking. Last night when I dug the
other hills, the seed potato had turned to, well, I guess you would call it
mush. It was a sticky, brownish goo. Like I said tho, I got good yield
otherwise and we went ahead and ate the potatoes, just throwing the goo
stuff over the hill. Is this a normal procedure for the seed potato or did
I do something wrong somewhere? I'm a first-timer and would love any
advice anyone can shell out!!!!
TIA,
Kristine
