Re: Bush Bean Seedlings

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

I have had problems with animals in my gardens too. I planted
cucumbers about a month or so ago. They started to come up fine, then
one day, they were gone. I planted the rest of the seeds ( I only had 4
left) and protected the one plant that germinated by putting things
around this plant. It grew fine. I even put one of those little fences
around this part of the garden to keep my golden retriever out of the
gardens. Well, I hate to report that in spite of all this, my only
cucumber plant left also disappeared. I have squash planted in another
garden, but it looks like the same thing might be happening there. It
starts off where the leaves look wilted, then the next day, the leaves
are gone. After that, the stem disappears. My dog is so hyper, I could
imagine that he could do that, but I have a fence around it and he would
have to push through that and it would seem he would leave paw prints in
the garden, but I don't see any. My next step is to build an area around
the garden section, and make it like a huge garden, but put mulch in
that area instead, making a walkway around each of the gardens, kind of
like the one on the "Square Foot Gardening" book. Then put a little
fence around all that. I may have to put a covering or netting over the
top to reinforce animals staying out. I know this will cost alot of
money, but if it isn't the animals eating the garden stuff, I need to
find out what exactly it is.
