I think many of us don't pay too much attention to what happens the seed
potato. We are more interested in the yield. I have been growing potatoes
for about 50 years and I can not honestly tell you what happens to the seed
potato. It probably either rots away if the soil is moist or if cut seed
pieces were used and would tend to remain whole or dry out if whole potatoes
were used or if the soil is dry. -Olin
